Dr. Abdo received his BS and MS degrees from Cairo University, Egypt. He got Fellowship of Royal Veterinary College Sweden (FRVCS) from Swedish University, Uppsala, Sweden. He received his doctoral degree in 1995 from Zurich University, Zurich, Switzerland.  He trained in two postdoctoral fellowships, the first at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland and the second at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Japan.

 

Dr. Abdo was senior embryologist/supervisor at IVF Michigan, Rochester Hills. He then accepted position of Scientific Director of Specialists in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in Fort Myers, Florida. Dr. Abdo has been serving as Scientific Director for Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine (VCRM) in Reston, Virginia since 2003,.

Dr. Abdo is board certified through the American Association of Bioanalysis as a High Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD) since 2004 as well as a Clinical Consultant (CC). Dr. Abdo is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB), American Association of Bioanalysis (AAB) and College of Reproductive Biology (CRB). Dr. Abdo has been serving as a lead inspector for the College of American Pathologists since 2006 and has performed 8 CAP inspections so far.

Dr. Abdo has performed several research studies that led to new developments in human reproduction. He has published in the scientific literature on various aspects of Assisted Reproductive Technology. He is the recipient of numerous awards and grants. He is a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility. Dr. Abdo’s technical skills and experience as an embryologist are very well known and he is the driving force behind the highly successful IVF lab at VCRM. His expertise has enabled VCRM to have the highest pregnancy rates in the area for the past 8 years.
