Embryologist of the Month of December 2014 - Dennis Matt, PhD, HCLD

  Dennis Matt, PhD, HCLD

Dr. Matt received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.  He subsequently earned his Masters of Science degree in Zoology from Rutgers University and his PhD in Anatomy and Zoology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Rutgers University in 1983. 

Dr. Matt took a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroendocrinology at the UCLA Brain Research Institute in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Los Angeles, California.  During his postdoctoral fellowship, he also became a founding member of UCLA’s In Vitro Fertilization Program under the leadership of Dr. David Meldrum. 

     In 1986, Dr. Matt took a position as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Science’s Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.  At VCU he served as the Laboratory Director of the VCU IVF Program, as well as the Director of the Perinatal Screening, the Reproductive Endocrinology, and the Andrology Laboratories.  In 1994, Dr. Matt achieved tenure as an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. 

In 1998, Dr. Matt was co-founder of the Virginia IVF and Andrology Center in Richmond, Virginia where he has served as Scientific Director to the present day.  In addition, he is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at VCU.

Dr. Matt has published, lectured, and taught on various aspects of reproductive biology, reproductive aging, neuroendocrinology, and assisted reproduction.  He is board certified through the American Association of Bioanalysts as a High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director.  He is an active member of the American Association of Reproductive Medicine, the Society of Reproductive Biologists, and the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technologies where he has served as a member of the CDC/SART Clinic Success Audit Committee.  He has been a Laboratory Inspector for the College of American Pathologists for over 20 years.
