Embryologist of the Month (June 2013)

    Tariq Shah, PhD, HCLD, EMB, MPA

Dr. Shah is an adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Biology, Michigan State University. He has authored many scientific articles and textbook chapters in the area of reproductive biology.
Dr. Shah earned Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree in 1976 and PhD in Reproductive Sciences in 1982. During his postgraduate studies Dr. Shah carried out research on ovulation induction and cryopreservation of goat embryos. Dr. Shah then pursued his post doctoral fellowship in In Vitro Fertilization at the Cleveland Clinic under the guidance of Dr. Ralph Gwatkin.  His work focused on microsurgical fertilization of sub-fertile mouse. He was awarded in 1989 the status of ‘Special Fellow (in vitro Fertilization)’ of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
 
Dr. Shah has worked as Clinical Embryologist since 1987. He passed his board examination as a High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director in 1995. Dr. Shah directed IVF and Andrology laboratories at Sparrow Hospital and William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan. Since 2006, Dr. Shah has been associated with Reproductive Medicine Associates of Michigan. Dr. Shah is certified as a Reproductive Embryologist (EMB) by the American College of Embryology. 
 
He is expert in all aspects of in vitro fertilization including but not limited to micro-manipulation, vitrification of oocytes and embryos, ovarian tissue cryopreservation, and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis and screening (PGD/PGS).
 
Dr. Shah is an adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Biology, Michigan State University. He has authored many scientific articles and textbook chapters in the area of reproductive biology.
 
Dr. Shah is member of several professional societies including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Society of Andrology, Michigan Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the American Association of Bioanalysis.
 
Dr. Shah serves as an inspector for the College of American Pathologists' Reproductive Laboratory Accreditation Program. He also holds a Master's degree in Health Care Administration.
 
Having impacted the lives of thousands of infertile couples over the years, Dr Shah has been described as hard working and passionate by his colleagues and kind and honest by his patients.
