Wei-Hua Wang, PhD, HCLD - Embryologist of the Month

Dr. Wei-Hua Wang graduated from Gansu Agricultural University with a bachelor degree (doctor of animal medicine) of Science in July, 1983, with a Master degree of Science (Anatomy, Histology and Embryology) in July 1986, with a Ph.D. degree (Animal Reproductive Physiology) in Okayama University, Japan in 1995, and then had postdoctoral training (Animal Reproductive Physiology and Biotechnology) in both Japan (National Institute of Animal Industry) and USA (University of Missouri-Columbia) between 1995-1998.

In 1998, Dr. Wang moved Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, Brown University as a research associate and embryologist and then supervisor in IVF laboratories, New England Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in 1999. At the end of 2001, he moved to Houston, Texas and established IVF laboratories in Tomball Regional Hospital and Vista Surgical Center and served as laboratory director, embryologist and andrologist. In 2004, He was certified as a High Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) by ABB. Currently Dr. Wang serves as lab director at Aspire Houston Fertility Institute, Prelude Fertility, Inception LLC, which is one of the largest IVF practices in USA.

Dr. Wang’s research has been recognized nationally and internationally, which includes the general program prize awarded in the 55th Annual Meeting of American Society for Reproductive Medicine in 1999 and the third-place prize awarded by Royan International Infertility Research conference in 2000. So far, Dr. Wang has published more than 100 scientific research papers including 10 books or book chapters and presented in more than 100 conferences. Total citation of his publications has reached more than 7000 based on Google Scholar citation record. Dr. Wang has also been a reviewer and/or associate editor of about 20 international journals and he was also recognized as a “best reviewer” in Human Reproduction in 2011. In 2009, Dr. Wang established frozen donor egg bank at Houston Fertility Institute, which was ranked as the top 5 by Forbes in 2016 among 238 clinics performs frozen egg IVF in USA.

During the past two decades, Dr. Wang has collaborated with universities, research institutes and infertility clinics to undergo various research projects related to spindle checkpoint, aneuploidy formation, oocyte cryopreservation and embryo biopsy. Dr. Wang has also supervised about 80 PhD students, post doctorial searchers, and clinical embryologists.
