Dr. Murid Javed, MSc (Hons), PhD, EMB

Dr. Javed is Laboratory Director at Astra Fertility Group that has 4 fertility clinics across Greater Toronto Area. He holds the highest level of certification from the American College of Embryology. He has been in Embryology profession since 1986.

Dr. Javed initially received DVM degree in 1981 in Pakistan but due to his curiosity for research in Reproductive Physiology, he continued advanced studies and earned MSc (Hons) in 1984. In 1986 he came to USA and earned PhD in Embryo Physiology from Washington State University under supervision of Professor Raymond Wright. His thesis was on utilization of energy substrates at different stages of bovine embryos.

 

In 1996, he had the privilege to work in the laboratory of Professor Benjamin Brackett at the University of Georgia, Athens to conduct research on vitrification of in vitro produced bovine embryos.  He completed a research project at Kyoto University, Japan to investigate the effects of addition of synthetic compounds in culture media on in vitro embryo development.  In 1998 he moved to Canada and worked for The Toronto Institute for Reproductive Medicine.  In 2002, he joined the ART Labs at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor as Senior Clinical Technologist. From 2003 to 2010, he worked at Toronto Centre for Advanced Reproductive Technology as Embryologist.  In 2010 he was selected as Laboratory Director at Astra Fertility Group.

 

Dr. Javed had opportunities to work in the leading Embryology Laboratories in USA, Canada, Japan and China.  His basic research focused on improvement of in vitro embryo culture, embryo cryopreservation and vitrification. The goal of his clinical work is to improve outcome of ART. He has always been actively involved in transfer of knowledge. He has trained many Embryologists and Andrologists in USA, Canada and Pakistan. 

 

Dr. Javed is recipient of many awards including outstanding contributions in Embryology, CFAS prize paper, IDB and JSPS fellowship awards.  He has published a book chapter and more than 44 research publications.  He is on the graduate committees of 3 universities, and reviews papers for 7 scientific journals.  He is on Editorial Board of two journals. He is active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society and Ontario Fertility Services Network. He is member of the Practice Committee of American College of Embryology.

 

Dr. Javed very keenly talks to the infertility patients before the treatment to decide the best embryology treatment plan for the couple. He also likes to review and explain to patients the likely cause of failure and offers suggestions to improve the outcome in subsequent treatment.
